Want to help AZ kids learn about the environment?
I've commented quite a bit about the environmental problems in Azerbaijan. I'm planning another Earth Day clean up at school and coordinating to have some environmental activities this month leading up to the big 40th anniversary. But the question is would YOU like to help? Here's an opportunity for you--albeit not Zerdab directly but another city that some friends of mine live in. They've organized and planned for a multiple week session to teach the local children about the environment, their affects on it, etc. Activities include a trash clean up and a mural-It's all very exciting! I hope to help out and only wish that years from now something similar could be possible throughout the country. Little by little right? If you would like to donate feel free to pitch in as little as $5. It's tax deductible :) Earth Day Project

Glad to help your friend's Earth Day project.
Way to go!

Hello! I found your blog by actually googling to see if there is a translation I could use for explaining "chicken pox" to an azeri friend!!
I was in Azerbaijan in March of 09 for almost. I spent most of my time in Agdash, a few days in Aliabad (near Zagatala--got to take a peek at Sheki for a few hours), and about 2 days in Baku.
It was my first experience with the country and I really enjoyed it. But--the description of your town, "a whole lot of nothing" does, unfortunately, accurately describe a good bit of the country!
And I can imagine you will experience some culture shock if you have been there for two years. I could only imagine! It has been a year since I was there and the country and people still have such a big impact on me.
I made some friends while there, that I hope to visit again someday.
Anyway--I have enjoyed skimming through our blog and seeing pictures. It has reminded me some of my visit!
